Ahead of Bangladesh’s Parliamentary elections, a Hindu businessman was stabbed to death inside his shop in Mymensingh district late Monday night, police confirmed. The deceased has been identified as Sushen Chandra Shekhar, 62, a resident of Southkanda village and owner of Messrs Bhai Bhai Enterprise, a rice trading business at Bogar Bazar intersection in Trishal Upazila. Police said the incident occurred around 11 pm while Shekhar was working inside his shop when unidentified assailants attacked him with sharp weapons. After the killing, the attackers pulled down the shutter and fled, leaving the body inside, according to India Today.
Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Firoz Hossain confirmed the incident and said a probe has been initiated to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Rising Violence Against Minorities
The killing comes amid growing concerns over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh ahead of the elections. On December 18, 2025, Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu factory worker, was lynched following false blasphemy allegations, drawing international condemnation.
In another attack, Liton Chandra Ghosh, 55, a Hindu businessman, was stabbed and set on fire and later succumbed to his injuries. According to the Rights and Riska Analysis Group (RRAG), at least 15 Hindus were killed within a 45-day span between early December 2025 and mid-January 2026.

Pattern Of Communal Attacks
Minority advocacy groups say these attacks reflect a sharp rise in communal violence, including hundreds of assaults on individuals, properties, and places of worship. Police officials reiterated that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that steps are being taken to maintain law and order.
The murder of Shekhar adds to a disturbing pattern of violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, highlighting concerns over communal tensions as the country heads into a crucial electoral period.
