Muhammad Yunus will be sworn in as the leader of Bangladesh's interim government on Thursday, following Sheikh Hasina's departure from power amid violent protests against government job quotas. Yunus, a Nobel Peace laureate, has urged the nation to maintain peace. "Violence is our enemy. Please don’t create more enemies. Be calm and get ready to build the country,” he said.
Indian border security agencies are on high alert due to the unrest in Bangladesh. The Border Security Force (BSF) reported thwarting an infiltration attempt by a large group of Bangladeshis along the International Border (IB) in West Bengal on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced that the interim government will take charge on Thursday at 8 pm. The advisory council will consist of 15 members, with Yunus as the head. President Muhammad Shahabuddin appointed Yunus as interim leader after Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country.

Before departing for Bangladesh, Yunus stated at Paris airport that his priority as the head of the government is to restore normalcy and ensure justice for all victims from the first day of his tenure.
A Bangladesh court has canceled the six-month jail sentence given to Yunus for violating labor laws during Hasina's government, as reported by Reuters.
Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who has been under house arrest since 2018, was released on Tuesday. Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Khaleda announced that her party will join the interim government. Zia praised the people's struggle and called for rebuilding the nation with love and peace.
Sheikh Hasina, the ousted Prime Minister, will stay in India for a few days, as confirmed by her son Sajeeb Wazed Zay. After resigning, Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana reached Hindon Airbase near Delhi in an Air Force cargo plane on Monday. The Indian government has provided them with a safe house. In an interview, Sajeeb mentioned that they have not yet decided on a long-term stay for Hasina, but she is currently in India.
