Bangladesh Quota Crisis: In response to ongoing deadly clashes over the allocation of government jobs, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government has imposed a nationwide curfew and ordered the deployment of military forces to restore order. This decision follows hours of intense confrontations on Friday, where police and security officials used bullets and tear gas on protesters and prohibited all gatherings in the capital, Dhaka.

Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of the ruling Awami League party, announced the curfew, explaining that it was necessary to support the civilian administration in maintaining order. According to AFP, the clashes have resulted in at least 105 deaths and over 1,500 injuries across the country.
Key Updates On Bangladesh Job Quota Protests
- Over 300 students returned to India through the northeastern borders on Friday, as widespread protests in neighbouring Bangladesh led to over 100 deaths. The demonstrators clashed with pro-government activists and security forces in violent anti-reservation protests.
- The situation escalated on Monday when violence erupted at Dhaka University. Six protesters were killed during these demonstrations.
- Many Indian students, who returned home, were pursuing MBBS degrees, with the majority coming from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Meghalaya, and Jammu and Kashmir.
- The Bangladeshi government ordered the closure of telephone and internet services across major parts of the country on Thursday.
- The protests began last month after a high court decision reinstated a 30 per cent job reservation in government positions for the families of freedom fighters and veterans from Bangladesh's 1971 War of Independence.
