Did A Bangladesh Student Leader Recently Boast About Lynching A Hindu Cop? Here's The Truth

Amid a series of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, a fresh video circulating on social media has triggered widespread anger after a youth leader was seen boasting about the killing of a Hindu police officer and issuing threats against law enforcement.

The viral clip, shared by journalist Sahidul Hasan Khokon on X, shows a student coordinator from Habiganj district referring to the killing of Sub-Inspector Santosh Bhabhu of the Baniachong police station during violent unrest in August 2024.

The speaker claimed that officers had been attacked and that the Hindu officer was “burnt.” The remarks were made inside a police station setting, with neither apparent remorse nor any words from the police officer.

Is it a fresh attack on Hindu?

According to media reports, the incident is not new. SI Bhabhu was killed during a mob attack on Baniachong police station in August 2024 amid nationwide protests that saw clashes between demonstrators and security forces. The violence was part of a broader movement that contributed to political instability at the time and the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Why did old video resurface?

The resurfaced video comes against the backdrop of recent outrage in Bangladesh over the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old garment worker in Mymensingh. Das was beaten to death by a mob in December 2025 following allegations, denied by investigators, of making derogatory remarks about Islam. His body was later tied to a tree and set on fire, sparking protests and raising serious concerns about communal tensions and mob justice in the country.

Amid the outrage, another young Hindu man was brutally killed. The deceased was identified as Amrit Mondal. He was lynched over alleged extortion in Rajbari town's Pangsha upazila. However, the Muhammad Yunus-led government dubbed it "misleading information" on social media. It said several media outlets have spread the wrong information.
