A British Airways flight en route to Chennai returned to London's Heathrow Airport on Sunday after circling in the sky, according to the flight data available on Flightradar24.

As per the report, flight BA35, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from London Airport at around 1:16 pm (local time) after a delay of 36 minutes. The data on Flightradar shows the flight returned after circling in the sky over the Strait of Dover.

Initially, the flight status on the official British Airways website showed cancelled, but the airline confirmed the return after technical snag. In their statement, the British Airways said that the flight returned as a standard precaution after tehcnical snag.

It read, "The flight landed safely with crew and customers disembarking as they normally would, and our teams are working hard to get their journeys back on track as soon as possible."

The technical snag in BA's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner comes on the heels of a deadly plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed the lives of 241 onboard, along with several others at the BJ Medical College Hostel where the plane crashed.

So far, over 274 bodies have been taken out of the debris. The plane crashed within 32 seconds of taking off from the Ahmedabad Airport.

In a press briefing, the Union Aviation Ministry said that moments after taking off, the captain called "Mayday," a distress call made in life life-threatening situation.

While the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will probe the crash with assistance from US and UK authorities, the government has also formed a high-level panel to analyse the existing standard of procedures (SOPs).

Given the safety and regulatory concerns around the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered one-time security checks of all these aircraft in service before their next flight.

Complying with the DGCA orders, Air India conducted security checks on nine aircraft. The airline added that the remaining 24 planes of the Dreamliner fleet will also undergo checks once they return to India.
