Amid diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, some lawmakers in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s own Liberal Party have asked for his resignation. The lawmakers have urged the leader not to run for a fourth term, issuing him a deadline of October 28 to make his decision. The MPs said that Trudeau “must leave by October 28” or face unspecified consequences, news agency AP reported.

In a recent meeting with key members of the Liberal Party, Trudeau exuded confidence that his party members are ‘strong and united’, however, this portrayal sharply contrasts with the urgent deadline set by approximately 20 MPs, asking for Trudeau’s resignation.

Three liberal lawmakers have joined a group of over 20 party members in urging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down ahead of the next election. Ken McDonald, a Member of Parliament from Newfoundland, emphasized the need for Trudeau to "start listening, listening to the people."

McDonald said that many of his colleagues who are planning to run in the upcoming elections are nervous because of poor polling numbers and the Liberals' dropping popularity.

During a recent Liberal caucus meeting, Canadian PM Trudeau faced a critical moment. Lasting three hours, the session included the reading of a letter urging him to resign and not pursue a fourth term, a feat no Canadian prime minister has achieved in over a century.

With a deadline set for October 28, the pressure is mounting on Trudeau, who has previously expressed his intention to run again but remained tight-lipped after the meeting, avoiding questions from reporters.

The India-Canada relations reached all-time low after Ottawa labelled the High Commissioner and five other Indian diplomats as "persons of interest" in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated as a terrorist by the NIA. In response, New Delhi strongly condemned the action and recalled six diplomats, including Verma.
