The central government will provide hourly weather updates at the gram panchayat level from today. The Panchayati Raj Ministry will launch a weather forecast service for gram panchayats on Thursday. Under this, gram panchayats will get a daily weather forecast for five days. With advance weather information, farmers will be able to protect their crops.

Weather forecast is very important in agriculture and disaster management. By getting the weather forecast in time, farmers can manage their crops better. Weather forecasting also plays an important role in disaster management.

Farmer Weather App: Farmers And Villagers Across Country Will Get Direct Benefit

The weather forecast service to be launched in collaboration with the Meteorological Department. It will enable Gram Panchayats to check the weather forecast hourly and this will directly benefit farmers and villagers across the country. This service will be launched on Thursday in the presence of Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh and Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh.

The Panchayati Raj Ministry said in a statement that as part of the government's 100-day agenda, this initiative will prove to be effective in strengthening governance at the grassroots level, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, making rural population more climate-friendly and tackling environmental challenges. This is the first time that local weather forecast will be available at the gram panchayat level.

Where to find the weather forecast

The weather forecast will be disseminated through the digital platforms of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj - e-Gram Swaraj, Meri Panchayat App and Gram Map. On these platforms, Gram Panchayats will get daily information about temperature, rainfall and wind speed. This will help farmers plan sowing, irrigation and harvesting activities and take important decisions. Besides this, SMS alerts will be sent to Panchayat representatives about extreme weather conditions like cyclones and heavy rainfall, which will ensure immediate action to protect lives, crops and property of people.

Farmer Weather App: What Are The Digital Weather Platforms

- The e-Gram Swaraj portal has been developed with the aim of strengthening digitisation in panchayats. Its goal is to bring transparency in decentralised planning, progress reporting and work-based accounting.

- My Panchayat app is the official app of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. It promotes community engagement by allowing citizens to interact with local representatives and convey their problems to them.

- Gram Map is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at facilitating the digital transformation of rural governance through advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
