Charlie Kirk Death News: FBI Director Kash Patel is facing mounting criticism over his handling of the investigation into the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, though US President Donald Trump has firmly stood by him. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said he was satisfied with the FBI’s swift action in capturing the suspect. “I am very proud of the FBI. Kash and everyone else they have done a great job,” Trump remarked.

President Trump also described the slain activist in deeply personal terms. “Charlie was like a son. He started this movement during what would normally be college years, and it became something bigger than anyone had imagined. I’ve never seen young people rally to one leader like they did with him,” Trump said on Fox & Friends. He further added, “I hope the shooter gets the death penalty.”

Why Kash Patel Is Under Fire?

Patel’s leadership has drawn scrutiny for several reasons linked to the Charlie Kirk case and his broader management of the FBI:

• Premature Claim: Patel first claimed that a suspect was "in custody" and later withdrew the claim hours later.

• Confusion in Updates: His own confusion had engendered public confusion and eroded faith in the investigation.

• Internal Friction: According to AP Reports, Patel had a confrontation with the staff in anger when they failed to quickly display the suspect's photo to him.

• Past Criticism: He has been criticized before for his response to files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

• FBI Shake-Ups: Several high-ranking officials have filed suit after being purged during his tenure, claiming political retaliation.

• Political Alignment: Critics claim that Patel has steered FBI priorities toward Trump's agenda, including immigration and street crime, over national security and corruption investigations.

Security consultant Kris Herzog also revealed he had warned Kirk about inadequate protection weeks before the incident. “I told him there was a 100 per cent chance he would be killed at one of his campus events without bulletproof glass and metal detectors. Sadly, he never followed up,” Herzog told The Daily Mail.

White House Defends FBI Director

Despite the backlash, the White House has stood firmly behind Patel. Communications Director Steven Cheung told POLITICO, “Director Patel and his team worked night and day to find this murderer and bring him to justice. Anyone doubting his dedication is engaging in political gamesmanship at a time of national mourning.”

Patel, in a news conference Friday, described the arrest as “historic progress.” He said, “In less than 36 hours 33 to be precise the suspect was apprehended with the full weight of the federal government. To my friend Charlie Kirk: Rest now, brother. We have the watch. I’ll see you in Valhalla.”

Patel is scheduled to appear before Congress next week, where lawmakers are expected to grill him on the Kirk case, FBI leadership disputes, and ongoing lawsuits from former bureau officials. This hearings could define his tenure and determine whether he can restore credibility to an agency under immense political strain.
