A shocking allegation has surfaced from authorities in Gaza, who claim that Palestinian bodies returned by Israel have been hollowed out and stuffed with cotton, sparking renewed accusations of organ theft and abuse. The Gaza Health Ministry stated on Saturday that several corpses transferred back during ongoing prisoner exchanges under US mediation showed signs of tampering and missing internal organs.
According to ministry officials, the bodies appeared “emptied from the inside,” but they acknowledged they currently lack the forensic tools needed to conclusively verify whether organs were removed. Despite this limitation, the claims have intensified calls for international scrutiny of Israel’s treatment of detainees and the deceased.
Accusations Not New
These allegations are not the first of their kind. On October 17, Ismail al-Thawabta, director of Gaza’s government media office, accused the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of harvesting organs from Palestinian corpses. At that time, he demanded an urgent international investigation “to hold Israel accountable for serious violations against the bodies of the martyrs and the theft of their organs.”
Over the past three days, 120 Palestinian bodies have reportedly been returned via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Officials claim many were missing parts such as corneas, cochleas, livers, and other internal organs. The pattern, they allege, is consistent across multiple bodies.
Signs Of Torture And Execution
In addition to organ-theft allegations, several bodies showed what authorities described as visible torture marks. Dr. Munir al-Bursh, director-general of the Health Ministry, said that many corpses arrived blindfolded, with hands tied behind their backs, and marked by burn wounds.
“These bodies were bound like animals and bore horrific signs of torture,” al-Bursh stated. “They did not die naturally; they were executed after being restrained. They were kept in occupation refrigerators for months, not buried underground.” Some corpses reportedly had missing teeth, burned flesh, or amputated limbs, intensifying the concerns.
Human Rights Group’s Claims
Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor added to the allegations, claiming its field teams had “conclusive evidence” that many Palestinians were killed after being detained. The organisation cited rope imprints around necks, close-range gunshot wounds, crushed torsos, allegedly from armored vehicles, and severe fractures.
