In a shocking incident, security forces affiliated with Hamas reportedly executed several individuals in Gaza City accused of collaborating with Israel and committing criminal acts during the recent conflict. The executions, announced on Monday, come amid a tense post-ceasefire period following the first phase of Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Palestinian media outlets reported that eight people were executed by firing squad. Video footage circulating on local platforms shows masked security personnel carrying out the executions in what appeared to be a public or semi-public space. In the clips, masked fighters force men to kneel before executing them at close range while onlookers chant “Allahu Akbar.”

The Gaza Interior Ministry described the executed individuals as “agents and outlaws,” accusing them of exploiting the chaos of war to commit crimes such as looting humanitarian aid and attacking civilian property. While the footage has circulated widely on social media, international news agencies, including Reuters, have not been able to independently verify its authenticity or location.

Context Of Ceasefire

The executions coincided with the implementation of a ceasefire under Trump’s peace plan. According to reports, Hamas was authorised to manage internal security in Gaza as part of the agreement, allowing the group to oversee law and order in the enclave.

As part of the peace deal, Hamas handed over all living hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross, while Israel released 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life terms and over 1,700 detainees from Gaza, including minors. Israeli forces are set to gradually withdraw from certain areas of Gaza, with a multinational monitoring force supervising the truce. The long-term plan envisions Gaza being demilitarised and temporarily governed by a technocratic Palestinian administration under international oversight, chaired by Trump.

Concerns Over Hamas’ Future Role

Despite the peace agreement, the new execution footage has raised fears that Hamas may refuse to disarm, using brutal enforcement to maintain control. Over the weekend, Hamas reportedly mobilised around 7,000 armed militants to reclaim areas previously taken by Israeli forces.
