United States President Donald Trump on Thursday stated that he would take “full credit” if negotiations with Iran succeed but would hold Vice President JD Vance responsible if the deal fails. Trump made the remarks during the Easter lunch event at the White House and comes amid ongoing talks with Iran for securing a ceasefire in the conflict that has entered its fifth week.

Who Will Trump Blame For The Failure?

In a video from the event that has surfaced online, Trump is seen asking Vance, who is a key negotiator in potential talks with Iran about the ongoing progress. He then remarked that if the deal is successful, he will take credit for it, and if not, Vance would be blamed for the failure. “If the Iran deal doesn’t happen, I’m blaming JD Vance. If it does happen, I’m taking full credit," Trump said.

Earlier, a CNN report stated that Iran would prefer to engage in negotiations with Vance rather than special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner and Secretary of state Marco Rubio.

US In Nearing Success, Says Trump

In a televised address to the nation on Wednesday night, Trump said the US was nearing success in its military objectives in the conflict with Iran. He claimed that US forces had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities, including its navy and air force, while also damaging its ballistic missile and nuclear programs.

“Iran's navy is gone, their air force is in ruins, their leaders, most of them... are now dead. Their command and control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is being decimated, their ability to launch missiles and drones is dramatically curtailed, and their weapons, factories, and rocket launchers are being blown to pieces,” Trump said.

He further asserted that the core strategic goals of the operation were close to being achieved. He assured that the conflict would soon come to an end, adding that the US would “finish the job very fast.” Trump also acknowledged rising gasoline prices, attributing them to disruptions caused by Iranian attacks on commercial oil tankers. He assured citizens that the price surge would be temporary, while warning that the US could expand its strikes to include Iran’s energy infrastructure if necessary.
