A 22-year-old Sikh nurse was allegedly assaulted at an Australian gym by three men. The victim, identified as Harman Preet Singh, said the incident occurred while he was leaving the gym after his workout. 

As per a 9news reports, Singh claimed three men began harassing him while he was training and later waited outside the facility in Corio, a suburb of Geelong. The incident came to light when a video of the incident, which was circulating online, showed a man confronting Singh and allegedly calling him an “Indian dog” while using expletives.

Singh alleged that during the altercation, the man came close to his face and struck him, causing his nose to bleed immediately. Singh said the accused left the scene in a grey sedan, while he was taken to the hospital and had to stay overnight. 

Reports indicate that he may require consultation with a specialist and could consider surgery as part of his treatment. He is expected to be discharged after about a week.

Victim Speaks Out

Speaking about the incident, Singh said this was not the first time he had faced racial abuse, but the latest episode has had a significant emotional impact.

“I try to keep myself strong and not care about such things, but it hurts,” he said, adding that he now feels unsafe and is unsure whether he will return to the same gym or change his workout hours.

Family Expresses Shock

Talking about the incident, Singh’s sister, Khushi Kaur, said the family has been deeply shaken by the incident.

Authorities have not yet released detailed information about the suspects or any arrests in connection with the alleged assault.
