Canada shootout: Three Indian-origin tow-truck drivers have been arrested in connection with a shooting linked to a long-simmering rivalry between two tow-truck groups in Canada’s Brampton city, Peel Regional Police said. The violent incident, which was caught on video and later released by police, took place on October 7 and left one person injured.
According to police, the shooting occurred at around 10.45 pm local time in a parking lot near the intersection of McVean Drive and Castlemore Road. Two rival groups confronted each other, and the argument escalated into gunfire. One individual sustained minor injuries and was treated, officials said, adding that the injuries were not life-threatening.
Lengthy Probe Leads To Arrests
On November 20, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Caledon, following which the three men were taken into custody. The arrested individuals have been identified as Manjot Bhatti, Navjot Bhatti, and Amanjot Bhatti. All three are of Indian origin and were working as tow-truck drivers at the time of the incident, police said.
Manjot Bhatti has been charged with multiple firearm-related offences, including intentionally discharging a firearm recklessly, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, knowledge of unauthorised possession of a firearm, and being an occupant of a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present. He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton and has since been released on bail, Peel police confirmed.
Navjot Bhatti and Amanjot Bhatti have each been charged with being occupants of a motor vehicle knowing that a firearm was inside. Both men were released on an undertaking with conditions and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Peel Regional Police released video footage and an image of the suspect, urging members of the public to come forward with any information. “Gun violence will not be tolerated in our communities. We will continue to crack down on this kind of criminal behaviour,” police said in a post on social media platform X.

The incident has once again brought attention to violent disputes linked to tow-truck rivalries in parts of the Greater Toronto Area. Police said investigations are ongoing and further arrests are possible as they continue to identify members of the other group involved in the altercation.
