As the Hormuz debate continues, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa on Saturday called President Donald Trump an "idiot." The jab came following a viral maritime communication clip.

The comment was made in reaction to a claimed video that purportedly showed communication from Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), in which a speaker was heard using the word "idiot." The Iranian embassy vehemently denied the claim made by an account that shared Trump's Truth Social tweets that the statement was directed at Iran's foreign minister.

What Was In The Message?

The Iranian mission claimed, “You idiot, he meant your idiot president, Trump. Just google "idiot"—you'll understand who it is,” the embassy said in a post on X.

According to the IRGC navy, the alleged radio communication cautioned ships trying to cross the vital Strait of Hormuz. "This is the Iranian Sepah Navy calling on channel 16. The Strait of Hormuz is still closed; we will open it on our Imam Khamenei's order, not because of some idiot's tweets." All ships with ties to our adversaries would be targeted if they attempt to cross the Strait of Hormuz, the radio message stated. If you wish to cross the Strait, you must obtain authorization from the Iranian Sepah navy.

The controversial comments surfaced after Iran's joint military command, on Saturday, claimed that control of the Strait of Hormuz had been restored to its earlier status and was now under the “strict management and control of the armed forces.”

The Hormuz Debate

This occurred just one day after Tehran temporarily reopened the vital commercial shipping route. Additionally, it issued a warning that as long as the US blockade on Iranian ports persisted, passage would continue to be prohibited. The IRGC navy declared the strait completely closed until the embargo is lifted, claiming that the restriction has been extended even to a previously authorized safe corridor. Any vessel in violation would be targeted, according to a late-night message.

A precarious 10-day ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah organization in Lebanon coincided with Iran's original plan to reopen the waterway.

Diplomatic back channels seem to be operating despite the flare-up. Prior to the deadline for a ceasefire on April 22, Pakistani authorities said that Washington and Tehran were still getting closer to a settlement.

The head of Pakistan's army recently visited Tehran, according to Iran's Supreme National Security Council, although specifics were not made public. The council further stated that the US would have to give up "excessive demands" to continue talks.
