Iran on Saturday was hit by severe cyberattacks that targeted the nuclear facilities of the country and also disrupted nearly all three branches of the government. The cyberattack on Iran has happened amid escalated tension between Israel and Iran. Earlier, Israel had warned Iran of a "precise and surprising" attack after the latter attacked Israel with almost 200 ballistic missiles. However, it is not confirmed yet that Israel was the reason behind the heavy cyberattack.

“Nearly all three branches of Iran’s government—the judiciary, the legislature, and the executive branch—have been hit by heavy cyberattacks, and their information was stolen,” said Firouzabadi, the ex-secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace, as quoted by  Iran International.

“Our nuclear facilities have also been targeted by cyberattacks, as well as networks like fuel distribution, municipal networks, transportation networks, ports, and similar sectors. These are just part of a long list of various areas across the country that have been attacked,” he added.

Earlier this week, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant assured that Israel's response would be “deadly, precise, and surprising." However, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, responded by saying that Iran is fully prepared to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty. He said, "Iran stands fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression targeting its vital interests and security.”.

Saudi Arabia, a key ally of the USA in the Middle East, supported France's stance that claimed that halting arms exports to Israel is the "only way" to stop the ongoing conflicts. In a dramatic turn of events, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made a phone call to French President Emmanuel Macron. The talk between Salman and Macron has happened just days after Iran's Foreign Minister's visit to Saudi Arabia and is seen as a setback for the USA.
