Iran on Saturday issued a strong warning saying that a renewed conflict with the United States is “likely” amid rising tensions and stalled peace talks. The development comes after US President Donald Trump on Friday expressed dissatisfaction with Tehran’s latest proposal for negotiations sent via Pakistan. Iran's fresh warning suggests that the two-month-old war is likely to continue.

Iran Warns US Against ‘New Adventures’

According to Iran's Fars News agency report, Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior figure in the Iranian military's central command has warned of possible escalation. He said it is “likely” that tensions between Washington and Tehran may turn into another war. “The actions and statements of US officials are primarily media-driven, aimed first at preventing a drop in oil prices and second at extricating themselves from the mess they have created,” Asadi said.

Asadi claimed they (US) are trying to avoid a drop in oil prices and shift attention away from the situation they have created. He further emphasised that Iran's armed forces are "fully prepared" if the situation escalates. Asadi added, “The armed forces are fully prepared for any new adventures or foolishness from the Americans.”

At the same time, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has maintained that Tehran is open to diplomacy, but only if the US changes its current approach. But the differing positions from both sides indicate that progress in talks remains uncertain for now.

Trump Rejects Trump's Proposal

Earlier in the day, Trump had reacted to a new proposal sent by Iran through Pakistan. Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever or do we want to try and make a deal?” However, he later added that he would prefer not to take military action “on a human basis."
