Islamabad Suicide Bombing: After a suicide bomber struck a Shia mosque in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, during Friday prayers, killing at least 31 people and wounding over 160 others, a terror group Islamic State group (ISIS), claimed the reponsibility of the attack, SITE Intelligence Group reported on Friday. The extremist organisation stated that a 'martyrdom-seeking' operative detonated his explosive vest at the inner gate of the mosque as he reached the Shia worshippers, causing heavy casualties.
The blast occurred while the mosque was packed for Jumma prayers, making it one of the deadliest attacks in Islamabad since the 2008 Marriott Hotel bombing.
According to AFP, citing sources, security personnel stopped the attacker at the entrance, prompting him to detonate his explosives immediately.

Pakistan authorities have yet to release an official death toll or detailed investigation update, but the incident has heightened security concerns and a persistent terror threat. Rescue operations continued into the evening on Friday as hospitals treated the injured, many in critical condition. The death toll is expected to rise as viral videos of the incident showed many in pools of blood.
This is the first major claimed ISIS attack in Islamabad in recent years, underscoring persistent threats from militant groups targeting religious gatherings.
The powerful explosion took place at Khadijah al-Kubra mosque-cum-imambargah in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, police said in a statement. As per reports, the suicide bomber was stopped at the entrance gate, but he blew himself up right there.
