Former United States President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive variant of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office stated on Sunday. The 82-year-old Democrat's condition, although serious, is reported to be hormone-sensitive, providing hope for good control. According to the official press statement, Biden recently started noticing urinary symptoms, which led to additional tests identifying a prostate nodule. Follow-up examinations subsequently confirmed metastatic prostate cancer. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management. The Former President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement read.
Former President Biden's cancer has been rated a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), among the highest and most dangerous on the scale, meaning the cancer cells look extremely abnormal under the microscope. According to the Grade Group 5 American Cancer Society, it means the most aggressive and advanced type of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the leading cancer among men in America. One in every eight men is diagnosed in their lifetime. Biden's oldest son, Beau Biden, also died of cancer in 2015.
Trump, Obama, Harris Respond To Biden's Diagnosis
His former political opponents and colleagues sent their best regards to Biden and his family. US President Donald Trump even sent his regards in a post on Truth Social despite their fierce competition. "Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery," Trump said.
Kamala Harris praised her former running mate’s resilience."Joe is a fighter. I know he will meet this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always characterised his life and leadership," she tweeted on X. Former US President Barack Obama also sent his regards, having written, "Michelle and I are sending our best to the whole Biden family. No one has done more to identify breakthrough cancer treatments across its many forms than Joe, and I have no doubt he will overcome this hurdle with his characteristic determination and dignity."

Old Comments Resurface Again
After the announcement, a 3-year-old video of Joe Biden in which he seemed to say he had cancer has gone viral on social media. In a speech delivered from a coal-fired power plant in Massachusetts, Biden had stated, "That's why I and so damn many other people I grew up with have cancer…"The diagnosis has also fueled a rash of speculation on the internet.

Donald Trump Jr. wondered whether former First Lady Jill Biden or Biden's medical staff had known about the cancer long ago, and implied a cover-up. "How did Dr. Jill Biden miss stage five metastatic cancer, or is this another coverup???" he tweeted.
