Khalistani extremists again tried to disrupt a camp by Indian Consulates inside the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Greater Toronto Area, despite a recent injunction by a court against such demonstrations outside places of worship. Indian diplomats held a consular camp at the Mandir in Scarborough to help elderly Indian nationals with pension-related services, according to a Canadian journalist.

The visuals outside the temple showed pro-Khalistan elements shouting slogans against the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly over the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar was shot dead outside a Surrey gurudwara in British Columbia last year.

The Canadian journalist who covered the incident alleged that the Khalistanis were trying to strain India-Canada relations by organizing such protests and interfering with Indian consular camps.

"HAPPENING NOW: I’m outside the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir where the Khalistanis extremists have gathered to protest the temple and the “Indian government," Daniel Bordman wrote.

"What is actually happening inside is that there are elderly people from India who qualify for an Indian pension. So once a year they have to show ID to prove that they are still alive. I’ve seen Sikhs, Muslims, Christians and Hindus inside all getting along. But they Khalistanis are trying to stop the flow of money into Canada and destabilize our geopolitical relationships because they are assets of Pakistan and China," Bordman added in his post.

The protesters, allegedly affiliated with Sikhs for Justice, a group advocating for an independent Sikh state in India, demanded the closure of the Indian consulate in Canada.

The activities of Sikhs for Justice and other Canada-based Khalistani terrorist organisations have long been the bone of contention between India and Canada. The recent slump in bilateral relationships followed the unfounded accusations by the Canadian government against the Indian side over the killing of Nijjar.
