A Georgia teenager who disappeared seven years ago has been discovered safe in Colorado, prompting the arrest of his mother and stepfather on abduction charges. Abdul Aziz Khan, 14, was reported missing in November 2017 when his mother, Rabia Khalid, failed to appear at a scheduled custody hearing.

After Colorado police responded to an unrelated burglary report, the case, which was just featured on Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries, was solved.

A person living in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, reported a potential break-in, prompting deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to rush to the scene on February 23. After keeping an eye on his security cameras, the homeowner learned about the break-in.

When cops arrived, they discovered two adults inside the residence and two kids waiting outside in a vehicle.

The 40-year-old Khalid and her 42-year-old husband, Elliot Blake Bourgeois, stated that they were employed at a real estate company. Suspicion was aroused by their inconsistent statements.

Following investigations, it was shockingly discovered that Abdul Aziz Khan, who had been missing for almost seven years, was one of the youngsters in the vehicle.

The deputies' persistence in uncovering the truth was commended by Sheriff Darren Weekly. "Our deputies responded to what initially seemed like a routine trespass call, but through sharp attention to detail and tenacity, they uncovered the truth," Weekly said in a statement, according to The New York Post.

He stated the cops' ability to recognise irregularities and tenacity in following leads contributed to the safe recovery of the missing youngster.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children applauded the deputies' rapid thinking.

Khalid and Bourgeois were arrested and charged with many offenses, including abduction, forgery, identity theft, presenting false information to police, and trespassing. Their bail is set at $1 million apiece.
