India has sent a strong signal to Pakistan with Operation Sindoor, a multi-domain military campaign executed on May 7 in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Ex-Navy Chief and former Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee, Admiral Sunil Lanba stated the decades-old nuclear bluff of Pakistan has been called out definitively, claiming any nuclear escalation would be the "end of Pakistan."

“For 36 years, Pakistan has used infiltration and terrorism under the garb of nuclear immunity. That bluff has been exposed. Operation Sindoor has demonstrated India’s freedom of action,” Admiral Lanba said to The New Indian Express.

Red Lines Redefined: Admiral Lanba

Admiral Lanba also looked back at how India's strategic posture changed after 2016 and 2019, mentioning surgical and air strikes following the Uri and Pulwama terrorist attacks. He added that Operation Sindoor has further strengthened India's resolve and deterrence. “This is not just a military strike. It’s strategic messaging. The Prime Minister’s address at Adampur clearly laid down new red lines. Any new terror attack will be treated as a state of war,” Lanba said to The New Indian Express. He also referred to the religious tone of the Pahalgam mass killing, in which Hindu men were allegedly murdered in the presence of their families, and justified as much and as necessary a government response.

Operation Sindoor: New Normal In Counter-Terrorism

The raids, conducted by the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, hit 11 Pakistani air bases and killed more than 100 terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was well-planned and executed with accuracy and measured restraint, with a minimal loss of civilian lives while causing heavy damage to Pakistan's military establishment. "The Prime Minister has said that any new incident of terrorism will be treated as a state of war. Then, he said that no nuclear blackmail is going to be tolerated. I think we have freedom of action, and the messaging is very clear. We also displayed the comprehensive military capability of our air defense network. Pakistan always used this threat of nuclear escalation, and Operation Sindoor called out this bluff," Admiral Lanba to The New Indian Express

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking to the armed forces at Adampur Air Base, announced Operation Sindoor as India's new anti-terror policy, terming it as a "benchmark and new normal". "When our drones destroy enemy walls, when our missiles strike with stunning precision, we shout ‘Jai Bharat Mata!’ Operation Sindoor has shattered not just terrorist camps and air bases, but also the enemy’s audacity," PM Modi said.
