A PML-N lawmaker on Thursday submitted a resolution in Pakistan's Punjab Assembly nominating Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Gen Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for the Nobel Peace Prize. The resolution was presented by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief whip Rana Arshad and said Pakistan's leadership demonstrated "effective diplomacy" amid escalating tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States.
The growing tensions, the resolution added, threatened global peace. The resolution said this House appreciates the "effective diplomacy" of Prime Minister Sharif, Field Marshal Munir and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar that helped "pave the way for promoting peace and stability in the region".
Pakistan's role in Iran-US ceasefire
The US and Iran agreed to a two-week conditional ceasefire on Wednesday, bringing a pause to the hostilities which broke out on February 28. Ever since the truce came into effect, Sharif has posted multiple videos on social media platform where he could be heard boasting his diplomatic ability, despite the fact the ceasefire remains fragile amid Israel bombing on Lebanon. According to a report by Reuters, Pakistan officials told the news agency that both Sharif and Munir held multipe phone calls with the US and Iranian sides and dubbed it the "longest night" in the Pakistani history. The official said no one had slept on the negotiating night.

Pakistan to host 'Islamabad Talks' on Saturday
Pakistan is set to host in-person talks between the US and Iran on Friday, aiming to consolidate a fragile ceasefire and avert further escalation in West Asia. Iranian officials are in touch with Pakistan, and Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Masoud Pezshkian held talks on Wednesday, while separately, Field Marshal Seyed Asim Munir and Iran's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi talked over the phone.

According to another statement on X, Moghadam said that the Araghchi "appreciated the constructive & responsible role of Pakistan in continuous & effective efforts to end the war and strengthen peace and security in the region as well as ceasefire".
Meanwhile, the ceasefire has come under stress due to alleged violations by Israel, which launched strikes against Lebanon. The UN Secretary General also condemned the strikes, which killed many.

A day earlier, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that President Trump was dispatching his negotiating team, led by Vice President JD Vance, to Pakistan for peace talks. However, no time has been announced for the delegation's arrival. Reportedly, Vance will be joined by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
