Indian-origin Astronaut Sunita Williams, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), recently shared insights into her daily calls with her mother and the possibility of returning to Earth earlier than expected. Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Williams reflected on the unique experience of keeping in touch with her loved ones while orbiting the planet.

Williams, a veteran astronaut known for her space missions, said she makes it a priority to call her mother every day to check-in. Despite the excitement surrounding her time in space, she acknowledged that her mother, while supportive, would likely prefer having her at home. "Yeah, she, I think she likes it, but I think she's waiting for me to get home," Williams said. "I think she would prefer that we were at home together and, you know, going on a road trip."

She described their conversations as a way to maintain a sense of normalcy despite being miles apart. "It's nice to just have a normal conversation with her because I know every moment I'm up here is time I'm not spending with her," she said. "But we'll do that when I get home."

Sunita Williams Hints At Possible Early Return To Earth

As for her return to Earth, Williams hinted that she might be coming back sooner than originally planned. "I think decisions are starting to get made about how Crew-10 is going to get up here and then, of course, how we are going to come home," she said. "There's a possibility we'll come home a little sooner than we had thought about a little while ago."

While no final decision has been made, Williams emphasised that mission planners are considering the best course of action for everyone involved. When asked if she would be happy to return to Earth ahead of schedule, she responded with a balanced perspective. "Well, I want the right decision to be made," she said. "In the best interest of all of us."
