Swiss prosecutors have formally charged a man with the brutal murder of his wife, 38-year-old Kristina Joksimovic, a former Miss Switzerland finalist whose killing shocked the country earlier this year. Kristina, who competed in the Miss Switzerland pageant in 2009, was found dead in February 2024 under horrifying circumstances that investigators say point to a calculated and extremely violent crime.
According to the indictment, Kristina’s husband, identified as Thomas in line with strict Swiss privacy laws, strangled her to death in their home in Binningen, near Basel. After killing her, prosecutors say Thomas attempted to destroy and hide the evidence by cutting up her body using a jigsaw, knife and other tools.
Parts of her remains were allegedly placed in a blender and mixed with chemicals in an effort to dissolve them. Authorities also found that Kristina’s womb had been removed during the dismemberment process.

The investigation uncovered that Kristina suffered multiple injuries before she died, including bruises and several broken ribs. Prosecutors believe the killing was deliberate and planned. Police records show the couple had a history of domestic disputes, and Kristina had previously contacted a women’s shelter for help. Friends told investigators that she had been considering leaving the marriage.
Thomas was arrested shortly after the discovery of Kristina’s remains. At first, he told police that he had acted in self-defense, but he later confessed to killing her. However, he has not admitted to all the acts described in the indictment. Prosecutors say his attempts to destroy her body show clear intent to cover up the crime.
The case drew widespread media attention in Switzerland and abroad, not only because of its brutality but also because Kristina had once been in the public eye through her participation in national beauty pageants. Tributes poured in from friends, family and social groups who described her as kind, hardworking and deeply loved by those who knew her.
Thomas remains in custody as he awaits trial, and Swiss authorities say the full details of the case will be presented before the court in the coming months. The charges against him include murder, desecration of a corpse and obstruction of justice.
