Sydney Mall Shooting: At least six people were reported to be dead after a man entered a mall in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Saturday afternoon and began randomly shooting and stabbing people. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the toll of casualties at Bondi Junction's Westfield shopping centre may rise further as eight people including a child rushed to the hospital. Their conditions are yet to be disclosed.
Witnesses describe scenes of sheer terror as a man, reportedly armed with a knife, ran amok, leaving bystanders in a state of shock and confusion. "We didn't know where to go. We tried to go back in the other building but people were running down that direction," recounted Hannah Bodrozic, who was shopping in Country Road at the time.
"Even 20 minutes after people were rushed out of the mall, I saw SWAT teams of people sweeping the surrounding streets," one witness told Reuters. The other said they saw a woman lying on the ground and took shelter in a jewellery store. A spokesperson for New South Wales Ambulance mentioned that one of the alleged offenders was shot by police. Currently, authorities are searching for the other individual.
