Amid the rising global tension after the deadly Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the United States has extended strong support to India, condemning the violence and vowing cooperation in the fight against terrorism. US House Speaker Mike Johnson, on Tuesday, expressed strong support for India. He announced that the United States will extend all required assistance, including energy and intelligence resources, to bolster India's counter-terror capabilities. India has to stand against terrorism. We will do everything possible to support those efforts. Trump administration will help India with energy and resources to fight terrorism," Johnson said.
When asked about his message for India, Mike Johnson said, "Look, we have great sympathy for what's happening over there, and we want to stand with our allies. I think India is a very important partner to us in so many ways. I hope that the trade negotiations will work out well between the two countries. No one asked me about tariffs, I'm glad. Yes, but a critically important relationship for us, and such a large population in such an important country. And India has to stand against terrorism there as well."
"We'll do everything we can in the US to support those efforts. And I think that's all part of this relationship as it develops. The Trump administration clearly understands the importance of that relationship and clearly understands the importance of the threat of terrorism. And so I think if that threat is increased, I think you'll see the administration, I believe that they will focus more energy and resources and time to help assist with that. That's certainly our hope," he added.
Trump Condemned The Attack
Earlier, US President Donald Trump denounced the "heinous terrorist attack" in a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed his condolences to the victims' families and assured America's unwavering support in bringing the perpetrators to justice. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also sharply condemned the attack, reaffirming Washington's intention to stand by New Delhi.

On X, Rubio posted, “The United States stands with India,” responding to the official statement shared by the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs. The Bureau had previously condemned the attack, stating, "The United States condemns in the strongest terms the terror attack in Kashmir. Nothing can excuse such an act of savagery, murdering tourists and civilians. Our prayers are with the loved ones of those who lost their lives,".
This comes at a time when India and the United States have been deepening strategic and security ties. The Pahalgam terror attack, which targeted civilians and tourists in the heart of Kashmir, has sparked international outrage and calls for accountability. The assurance can result in greater intelligence-sharing, co-operation in counter-terror operations, and greater diplomatic pushback against terror networks that span borders.
