US President Donald Trump has proposed the creation of an international “Gaza Board of Peace”, a new body intended to oversee post-war governance, reconstruction and long-term stability in the Gaza Strip. The initiative is a central pillar of Trump’s broader Gaza ceasefire framework and has begun taking shape with invitations sent to world leaders, including PM Modi.

In a letter shared by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, Trump described the Board of Peace as part of a sweeping 20-point “Comprehensive Plan” to end the Gaza conflict. The plan was first unveiled in September last year and, according to Trump, has since gained support from leaders across the Arab world, Israel and Europe. The White House says the initiative received formal backing from the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 2803 in November, which welcomed the establishment of the Board of Peace.

“This milestone perfectly aligns with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), which endorsed President Trump’s Comprehensive Plan and welcomed the establishment of the Board of Peace,” Trump wrote. Announcing the formation of the body on his Truth Social platform last week, Trump called it “the Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever assembled at any time, any place.”

Aim And Mandate Of Initiative

The Board of Peace is envisioned as an international organisation tasked with promoting stability, restoring lawful and dependable governance, and securing lasting peace in conflict-affected regions such as Gaza. Its mandate includes mobilising international resources, ensuring accountability, and developing best practices in peace-building consistent with international law.

Under the proposed charter, each member state would have one vote, with decisions taken by a majority, subject to approval by the chairman. The Board would convene at least annually and vote on budgets, senior appointments, policy decisions and new peace-building initiatives as Gaza transitions from war toward reconstruction and development.
