The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is Iran's elite military force responsible for protecting the Islamic Republic and advancing Tehran’s strategic interests at home and abroad.

Who Is Ahmad Vahidi?

Ahmad Vahidi's appointment as the IRGC's new Commander-in-Chief follows the death of former Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, Mohammad Pakpour, who was killed during coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.

Ahmad Vahidi or Vahid Shahcheraghi is a veteran military officer. He was appointed as the deputy commander-in-chief of the IRGC in December 2025. He has previously served as Iran's Minister of Defence and Minister of Interior, highlighting his extensive experience in both military and political spheres.

As the founding member of the IRGC, Vahidi has previously led the Quds Force, the elite unit responsible for Iran's external operations and the coordination of its regional military networks. He has played a key role in Iran's asymmetric warfare strategy and in establishing alliances across the Middle East.
