Chinese actress Zhao Lusi, known to her fans as Rosy Zhao, has spoken out about a very personal and disturbing episode in her life. The 26-year-old actress shared in an open and tearful video message that when she was going through depression, her talent agency locked her up in a hotel room and have her go through an exorcism instead of sending her to the doctor.

"I was ill," Zhao testified in her tearful video. "And rather than have me seen by a doctor, you locked me in a hotel and summoned a master to exorcise me, telling me that someone had cursed me." She revealed that she initially fell sick in December 2024, which compelled her to halt work obligations.

Financial Sanctions And Shown Abuse

Zhao also claimed that her agency not only did not protect her but also punished her monetarily. On August 2, she announced on social media to her 31 million followers that she had been required to pay 2 million yuan (USD280,000) for violating her contract, even though the agency had previously promised to take care of it.

The actress also alleged repeated physical and verbal abuse from her company. She alleged she was once talked down to for hours in a restroom at 2 am after bombing an audition. Zhao also produced medical records verifying her diagnosis of depression and severe anxiety.

Backlash Over Reality Show Appearance

In the past few months, Zhao made a comeback to TV via a reality show called Be Myself, in which she went to remote places. But the show was criticised, with viewers charging her of being "insensitive." Zhao explained that it was an idea foisted on her by her agency, which even blamed her for pretending to be ill so as not to work.

The scandal has made Zhao rethink her show business career. Crying foul after renewing her contract with the agency, she stated that she wants to leave the show business for good and lead a simpler life by starting a noodle restaurant. Her agency has refuted the allegations.
