The Indian car market has been expanding rapidly as we have become the third largest car market in the world. The SUV trend has been spreading like wildfire with them dominating most of the sales in the country. SUVs are a preferred choice for the Indian roads due to several factors such as commanding road presence, high driving position and better ground clearance, above all. However, some true car enthusiasts will always pick sedans over SUVs due to their enhanced performance. The Indian automobile market has been home to some of the best sedans available across the world. Let’s take a look at some popular sedans that should make a comeback in India.
Hyundai Elantra
The Hyundai Elantra, initially launched in India alongside the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Skoda Octavia, never quite captured the market. It was discontinued in 2022 without any official information from Hyundai. Despite multiple reintroductions, the Hyundai Elantra failed to gain traction with both the masses and enthusiasts. It was available with two engine options - a 2.0 litre diesel engine and a 2.0 litre petrol engine.

Skoda Octavia
The Skoda Octavia has always been a favourite among car enthusiasts since its entry into the Indian market in the early 2000s. It was discontinued with the Skoda Superb in the Indian market due to the BS6 emission norms. The Skoda Superb has made a comeback in India and the Octavia is also likely to be launched again in the Indian market soon. Enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the revival of the Octavia nameplate, which has always been a standout in its segment.

Honda Civic
Honda Civic was sold in India from 2006 to 2013 and made a brief return in 2019 before being discontinued in 2020. The Honda Civic remains highly sought after in the used car market, maintaining a strong resale value. It was available in India while being powered by a petrol engine that churned out a power output of 140 bhp and 174 Nm of torque.

Toyota Corolla Altis
The Toyota Corolla Altis, one of the world’s best-selling cars, enjoyed a strong response in the Indian market since its debut in the early 2000s. It was discontinued in India in 2020 due to poor sales and the manufacturer also stated that it will not be updated to comply with the BS6 emission norms. Like the Honda Civic, the Corolla Altis is also valuable in the used car market. The Corolla Altis was powered by two engine alternatives - a petrol engine and a diesel engine.

Honda Accord
The Honda Accord was known for its space, power and luxury, and has been a standout since its introduction in India in 2000. Its most exciting detail was that it featured a powerful V6 engine and was often regarded as the best-looking car in its segment. It was discontinued from the Indian market in India due to similar reasons as the other popular sedans.
