Hyundai New Infotainment System: Hyundai unveiled its next-generation, Android-based infotainment platform at its recently held Investor Day presentation. While yet to be officially revealed, the new Hyundai Exter SUV is expected to be the first model from the brand to feature India's first Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS)-based infotainment system. The updated SUV is due for a mid-cycle update in the first quarter of CY2027, although we have yet to see any spy or teaser images.

Hyundai Exter Facelift's AAOS: D

AAOS is an in-built operating system that is independent of a smartphone, enabling faster performance and better integration with vehicle functions. Unlike existing infotainment systems that support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay through a smartphone, a display with AAOS will run a proprietary OS derived from Android Automotive, offering a smartphone-like interface and OTA updates. With AAOS integration, the upcoming Hyundai vehicles will support native Google services, including Google Maps for real-time data and Google Assistant for voice commands.

The AAOS platform-based infotainment setup will consist of a 12.9-inch central touchscreen system and a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster. This crucial development will make the Exter the first car in India to get such software, if Hyundai plans to debut its new infotainment system with its entry-level SUV. Volvo is currently the only manufacturer to offer an AAOS-based infotainment system, though.

Hyundai to Extend AAOS to Other Models

Apart from its SUV, Hyundai will also roll out the update for its A-segment hatch, targeting new-age budget car buyers. Hyundai will gradually introduce AAOS in other Hyundai India vehicles, indicating its plans to make the latest operating system a standard feature across its entire lineup in the coming years.
