Indian Navy Commissions INS Arnala: The Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy commissioned INS Arnala on June 18, 2025. The INS Arnala is the first of its kind, and it is an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Watercraft (ASW-SWC). Here we are sharing all the details regarding the INS Arala and its capabilities.
INS Arnala: Tonnage And Engine
INS Arnala has been named after the historic Arnala fort of Vasai situated in Maharashtra. The INS Arnala is 77.6 meters long, and it has a gross tonnage of more than 1490 tonnes. The Arnala warship, with its commission, has become the largest Indian naval warship, which will be propelled by a diesel engine waterjet combination.

INS Arnala: Capabilities
The INS Arnala will strengthen the coastal defence of India, as it is capable of undertaking ASW operations in the coastal region. It also has advanced mine-laying capabilities, and the warship is especially designed to conduct ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) missions such as subsurface surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations, and search and rescue missions. The Indian Navy will receive 15 more ASW-SWC class of warships, and these will replace the Abhay class corvette ships of the force.
