According to a report by Car & Bike, RC Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki Chairman acknowledged the current challenge of high costs associated with hybrid technology in Toyota's models, resulting in higher vehicle prices. However, he expressed hope as Suzuki Japan works on developing strong hybrid systems that can boost fuel efficiency without substantially increasing costs.

Currently, Suzuki mainly offers mild-hybrid systems for its entry-level vehicles in Japan, reserving strong hybrid systems for larger passenger vehicles like the Solio and Landy. The efficiency benefits of strong hybrid systems are notable, particularly for smaller cars, evident from the Solio's significantly improved mileage compared to its petrol version.

In India, Maruti Suzuki's strong hybrid offerings are limited to models developed in partnership with Toyota, such as the Grand Vitara and the Invicto based on the Innova Hycross. However, their affordability remains a concern, with the cheapest strong hybrid variant priced above Rs 16 lakhs. Bhargava also discussed the potential impact of reducing the GST on hybrid cars, currently set at 43 per cent. While Minister Nitin Gadkari proposed reducing it to 12 percent, Bhargava remains cautious, awaiting post-election developments.
