Two districts in Bihar—Darbhanga and Aurangabad—are set to benefit from improved drinking water infrastructure under the centrally sponsored AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme. The state cabinet has approved the proposal, with a combined investment of over Rs 250 crore allocated for both projects.
In Aurangabad, a 135.1 km-long water distribution network will be developed to provide 14,225 new water connections. The urban population of Aurangabad will benefit from access to safe drinking water through this project, which is estimated to cost Rs 72.44 crore.
Meanwhile, Darbhanga will see a more extensive setup with the aim to provide 24,183 household connections across a 211 km area of the city. The infrastructure will include 16 tube wells, chlorinator-equipped pump houses, six water towers, and 20.3 km of rising mains, at a total cost of Rs 186.15 crore.
Alongside water supply initiatives, the government has also approved the Buxar Sewerage Network Project, with an estimated cost of Rs 255.88 crore. The project aims to connect 14,750 houses across 28 wards of Buxar to a 112 km-long sewerage network. Key components include two medium-capacity pumping stations and 1,075 rising mains, intended to significantly improve urban sanitation in the districts.
