Bihar's first access-controlled expressway between Amas and Darbhanga (NH-119D) will bridge the gap between North and South Bihar, providing fast and safe connectivity. It will prove to be a game-changer and accelerate Bihar's development.
According to a report by Jagran.com, the much-awaited project is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Details of Amas-Darbhanga Expressway
The Amas-Darbhanga Expressway is being built from Amas in Aurangabad district to Bela Nawada in Darbhanga.
Geographically, Amas is located on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway (NH-19), while Bela Nawada in Darbhanga, on the other hand, is connected to the East-West Corridor (NH-27).
Expressway to connect 7 districts
The expressway will connect 19 cities in the 7 districts of Bihar
- Aurangabad
- Gaya
- Jehanabad
- Patna
- Vaishali
- Samastipur
- Darbhanga
The Amas-Darbhanga will pass the River Ganga through bridges at two locations: Kacchi Dargah in Patna and Bidupur in Vaishali.
Amas-Darbhanga to connect 3 Bihar airports
The expressway is also unique for its connectivity model. It connects three major airports in Bihar by road. This will significantly benefit the people of the state and will also serve commercial interests.
By connecting Gaya airport, the route will provide special convenience to foreign guests visiting Bodhgaya.
In Patna, the expressway will connect to the Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport via a ring road. Similarly, in Darbhanga, the expressway ends near the airport. This will benefit the people of North Bihar.
Amas-Darbhanga Expressway: Work progress and cost
Work on this expressway project is progressing rapidly. According to the latest information, approximately 60 per cent of the work has been completed. In the Darbhanga section, pillar and structure work is in its final stages.
Approximately Rs 5,000-6,000 crore is being spent on this project. Given its length and connectivity, it is considered to have a significant impact on the state's economy.
Amas-Sarbhanga Expressway to slash travel time
Once this expressway is operational, the distance between Gaya and Darbhanga will be reduced, along with the travel time. Currently, the journey takes 5 to 6 hours. It will be reduced to just 2.5 to 3 hours.
Amas-Darbhanga Expressway: Deadline
The expressway was recently discussed during the budget session of Parliament. It was announced that the project would be completed by the end of this year, i.e., by the end of December. Work on some sections is expected to be completed by the middle of this year. Only then will it be opened to normal traffic.
