A bridge built for Rs 6 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) lies barely usable even four years after construction was completed, due to the missing approach road that should connect the bridge to the local road network.
The Pasanta Bridge was built in Dhandkhoda block in Bihar’s Katihar for a cluster of 10-12 villages located in the flood-prone regions of the area to connect with the main administrative hub, according to NDTV. But the bridge remains unusable due to the missing interlinking road, which can connect the bridge to the places located nearby. Further, one of the pillars was constructed on private lands, which has caused a major furore.

The construction of the bridge began on September 3, 2020. Contractors were given the deadline till September 2, 2021, to complete the work.
But four years later, locals complain that the bridge is unfinished. Locals say that the problems of the bridge remain unsolvable because of the improper land acquisition process by the government.

According to the local villagers, the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) was given a green signal by the authorities even without the proper land acquisitions on which the bridge was built. Katihar’s District Officer Manish Meena acknowledged the problem with the bridge and assured that he would personally investigate the whole matter.
