The Bihar Education Department prepared a list of 56 affiliated colleges that do not meet the basic standards for running classes and these colleges will soon lose their affiliation, according to an internal report of the department. The report revealed that these colleges have not paid the inspection fees and endowment fees and have violated the prescribed conditions for affiliation.

The report also stated negligence by the university in granting them affiliation. The department had already terminated the recognition of 40 colleges affiliated with Aryabhatta Knowledge University in September on the basis of a similar investigation.

The department is conducting field visits to all affiliated degree colleges to ensure the quality of education and infrastructure. The department has also ordered all registrars to implement certain conditions for granting funds to the colleges in the state.

Education Department Secretary Baidyanath Yadav said that the grants will be based on the quality of education (learning outcome) and not just on the examination results. He warned that the degree colleges that do not follow the department’s conditions will be deprived of grants.
