Ganga River Varanasi Water Level: Bihar Drowns As Ganga Overflows ( UPDATES )
- The rising waters of the Ganga have inundated the entire Raghopur block, leaving many villages completely submerged.
- Roads have vanished under several feet of water, and the only way in or out now is by boat. Fields once lush with crops are now underwater, and entire communities have been left stranded.
- As reported by Jagran.com, the damage to agriculture has been massive, with crops across hundreds of acres wiped out. The devastation has not spared vital government buildings either.
- The Raghopur block office, the BRC campus, the referral hospital, the CDPO office, Thakur Ram Sharan Singh Plus Two School in Judwanpur, and Prithvi Singh Plus Two School in Jahangirpur are all heavily waterlogged.
- In light of the ongoing emergency, District Magistrate Varsha Singh has ordered all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres in Raghopur, to remain closed for the next three days. The main road linking Rustampur and Birpur is completely flooded, with some stretches seeing water levels reach up to four feet.
- Transport has come to a grinding halt on several other routes too especially those connecting Fatehpur to Khalsa Ghat, Haibatpur, and Paharpur to Zamindari Ghat. Many of these roads are now rivers in themselves, making movement impossible.
- Daily life has come to a standstill in Raghopur. With water invading homes in low-lying areas, residents are navigating through dangerous floodwaters just to get essentials. Many households have already run out of food grains such as wheat and rice, and there’s growing concern over feeding both people and livestock.
- Animal herders are taking great risks to collect fodder, often wading through deep water or relocating animals to roads and higher grounds. With no government relief reaching them so far, many families are on the brink of desperation.
- Areas like Chak Singar, Veerpur, Teresia, Saraipur, Judawanpur Karari Barari, Rampur Karari Barari, Lanka Tola, Raghopur East and West, Paharpur East and West, and Bahrampur are among the worst affected. In these villages, homes are surrounded by floodwaters, and normal life has been thrown into chaos.
- Despite the worsening crisis, no official relief operations have been launched yet. This has left the people of Raghopur angry and helpless. In the absence of government aid, residents are relying on each other for support and demanding urgent action.
- As per reports, the Electricity Department has cut power in nine flood-affected panchayats, including Jahangirpur, Zafarabad, and Chak Singar, citing safety concerns. While necessary, the outages have left residents in complete darkness, compounding their misery during the nights.
- With floodwaters all around, families especially those with young children are staying awake through the night fearing insect bites, particularly from scorpions. The absence of mosquito nets, repellents, or basic relief kits has left them vulnerable.
- BJP leader Gautam Singh has urged the district and local administration to act swiftly. He demanded that adequate boats be provided in the flood-hit wards of Bidupur and Raghopur blocks, under the Raghopur assembly constituency.
- In Khudgash village, angry residents have taken to the streets in protest. Demonstrators, including Devendra Bhagat, Shankar Prasad, Rameshwar Mahato, Rajkumar Bhagat, Bela Bhagat, Shankar Bhagat, Surendra Bhagat, Rambabu Bhakt, and Pramod Bhagat, voiced their frustration at the lack of any government help.
