In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Bihar government has started free coaching for JEE and NEET for girls from economically weaker sections studying in classes IX to XII at Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential Schools. The program, launched under the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aims to empower girls to become doctors and engineers.
The coaching will be conducted within the schools themselves, benefiting 5,834 students annually. Students will receive two hours of online classes daily, covering a two-year foundation course and a one-year target course.
The Education Department has signed an MoU with coaching institute Physicswala to provide expert faculty, study materials, practice tests, AI-based doubt resolution, and interactive digital classes in Hinglish medium.
Currently, 232 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools, which offer education from class IX to XII, are part of the initiative. The remaining 402 schools, offering classes VI to VIII, are being upgraded to Plus-Two so that these students can also benefit from JEE-NEET coaching in the coming sessions.
A similar arrangement has been made for Simultala Residential School, modelled after Netarhat School, where students will also receive coaching for competitive exams. Experts will prepare subject-wise papers, conduct online classes, provide live-recorded content, practice and mock tests, and guide students on strategies to succeed in both foundation and advanced levels. Regular monitoring of students’ progress will also be conducted to ensure effective learning.
The government has allocated an annual expenditure of Rs 23.15 lakh for the program, marking a significant step towards promoting higher education opportunities for girls from economically weaker sections in Bihar.
