Darbhanga: A festive atmosphere turned into tragedy on Tuesday night in Bihar’s Darbhanga district when a 35-year-old man fell to his death while helping decorate for Durga Puja. The incident took place in Govindpur village, under the Bahadurpur police station, as final preparations for the puja were underway.
According to police, the accident occurred around 8 PM at a Durga Puja pandal in Govindpur village, under the Bahadurpur police station limits. The man, identified as Shyam Sundar Kamti, was reportedly putting up string lights on a tall water tank near a temple when he slipped and fell to the ground.
As reported by Hindustan Times, Kamti was a resident of Babu Saheb Colony. He had been voluntarily assisting in setting up the decorations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations when the mishap occurred.
“The accident took place at a Durga Puja pandal in Govindpur village under the Bahadurpur police station area around 8 pm,” a police officer said.
Confirming the incident, Pushpa Lata Kumari, Station House Officer (SHO) of Bahadurpur, said: “The body has been sent to Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) for postmortem. Once an FIR is registered, a preliminary inquiry will be initiated.”
