Jyoti Manjhi, the Hindustan Awam Morcha's candidate from the Barachatti constituency and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's relative, was alleedly attacked on Wednesday during the election campaign. Manjhi suffered a severe head injury after stones were reportedly pelted at her convoy during the campaign in her constituency. The supporters immediately admitted her to a local hospital where she is receiving the treatment. Gaya SSP Anand Kumar stated that a probe has been ordered into the matter, further stating that the attacker's identity is yet to be ascertained.

While providing details, DSP Ajay Prasad stated that the NDA candidate was attacked while returning from the campaign, adding that her supporters failed to identify the attackers. “Jyoti Manjhi, who was returning to her office after campaigning, was reportedly attacked while standing near her vehicle in Barachatti. A stone was thrown at her by an unidentified individual, hitting her," Prasad was quoted as saying by News18.

"The police responded quickly, with an FST vehicle and a patrolling car stationed nearby. However, no one witnessed the attacker or could identify who threw the stone. The woman with her at the time also couldn’t provide any details," he added. However, he assured that the police is questioning the eyewitnesses and the guilty will not be spared.

Jitan Ram Manjhi, while reacting to the incident, stated that the attack was on democracy, further demanding immediate arrest of the attackers. Apart from being a party member, Jyoti Manjhi is also a relative of the union minister, as her daughter is married to the former chief minister's son. Amid tight seat-sharing talks in the NDA for the Bihar polls, the HAM was allotted six seats.

The voting on the Barachatti constituency has been scheduled for November 11, while the results for all the seats will be announced on November 14.
