The railway has announced a 45-day block at Gaya Junction, Bihar, due to ongoing redevelopment work. This temporary measure has led to changes in the operation of several trains, causing inconvenience to passengers traveling to and from Patna, particularly students and business commuters who travel during the daytime.
Diverted Train Rerouting
Islampur-Hatia Express (18623): From February 5th to March 21st, the train will run via Bakhtiyarpur Link Cabin - Karanauti - Rajgir - Tilaya - Paimar - Banghua.

Hatia-Islampur Express (18624): The return journey will operate via Banghua - Paimar - Tilaya - Rajgir - Karanauti - Bakhtiyarpur Link Cabin during the same period.
Patna-Dhanbad Ganga Damodar Express (13330): From February 4th to March 21st, the train will be rerouted via Fatuha - Islampur - Natesar - Tilaya - Paimar - Banghua.
Impact on Daily Commuters
Railway officials have emphasized that these changes are temporary. However, the rerouting has disrupted the daily routines of students and businesspeople commuting between Gaya and Patna. Local passengers report longer travel times and the need to rely on alternative modes of transport.
Advisory for Passengers
The railway administration has urged passengers to check train schedules and updates before starting their journey. Normal train services are expected to resume once the redevelopment work is completed.
In separate development electrical and signalling work on the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line will begin in October, while construction of stations at Devprayag, Janasu, Maletha, Srinagar, Dhar Devi, Tilani, Gholtir, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag is set to start from May. Once complete, trains will cover the route in just 2.5 hours.

Salim Ahmed, CMD of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), inspected tunnels, bridges, and proposed station sites, reviewing safety, construction quality, and environmental measures. He directed that the project be finished by December 2028, praising the dedication of workers and technical teams operating in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
