Bihar Election 2025: With just over a month remaining in the much-hyped Bihar Assembly election, the Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial candidate is not finalised yet. While the Rashtriya Janata Dal's Tejashwi Yadav has been the face of the alliance for the past few years, the other alliance partners, especially Congress, have not declared him as the chief ministerial face. Congress leader Udit Raj on Tuesday stated that the alliance is yet to take the final call on the CM face for the assembly election.
Earlier in August, Tejashwi declared himself as the CM face in front of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'; however, the grand old party has not made any official announcement yet. Udit Raj stated that while Tejashwi is the chief ministerial face for RJD, the Mahagathbandhan will decide its face collectively.
"He may be the chief ministerial face for the RJD... but the INDIA bloc's chief ministerial face will be decided collectively," Raj was quoted as saying by PTI. "Look, any supporter of any party can do that (name that party's leader a Chief Minister) ... but the India bloc's candidate has not been decided. Let us see what the Congress HQ decides," he added.
The question of the CM face of the opposition alliance has been going on for months now. While Tejashwi has been the face and has held key portfolios like the deputy chief minister and health minister, the Congress has expressed hesitation on any official announcement. While addressing the issue during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', Rahul Gandhi asserted that all the parties of the INDIA bloc are working together to win, without making any major announcement.
"INDIA bloc partners are working... without tension. We will contest together, and the results will be good," Gandhi stated. The Election Commission on Monday announced that the Assembly polls will be conducted in two phases, adding that the result will be announced on November 14.
