Making a frightening prediction about the future of IT and call centre jobs, an Indian-American businessman and venture capitalist, Vinod Khosla, claimed that Artificial Intelligence will take over the IT and call centre jobs in the next five years. Khosla made the claim in the ongoing AI Impact Summit in Delhi, where he said that IT services and Business Process outsourcing companies will become extinct, and people will not know that things like BPO existed by 2030. He further claimed that traditional jobs in the IT sector will not last longer than five years.
He said: “People in India in the IT sector do not expect much change from the impact of AI, but I can say quite clearly that by 2030, there will be no such thing as IT services or BPO. They will all be gone.”
Khosla, speaking ahead of and during the summit, emphasised that AI will soon outperform humans in most expertise-based tasks, fundamentally disrupting traditional models like IT services and business process outsourcing (BPO). He urged India's young workforce — especially the 250 million entering the job market — to shift focus from outsourcing to developing and selling AI-based products and services globally.
‘No Need For Job By 2050’: Vinod Khosla
Appreciating India’s efforts in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Khosla said that it will become clear by 2050 whether there will be a need for jobs or not.
He stated, “The idea of a sovereign model is very good. I have long believed that countries should have their own sovereign AI. For cybersecurity and defence, foreign models are not acceptable.”

Born in Pune, he graduated from IIT Delhi and later co-founded Sun Microsystems. Khosla is often ranked among the wealthiest Indian-origin individuals in the United States.
