These schemes provide not only insurance but also employment opportunities to thousands of women across India. One such unique scheme is the LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme, which aims to make the women of India self-reliant.

The LIC Bima Sakhi scheme has provided employment to about 2 lakh women and is slowly expanding into rural regions. Under this scheme, women are trained as insurance agents, and are provided with a fixed monthly salary during their training. In addition to commissions on policy sales, the program also aims to create long-term sustainable careers for women.

LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme Details

The LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme has already helped over 200,000 women find work. On an average, these women are earning about Rs 7,000 a month. The government has allocated more than Rs 520 crore for this program, which provides not only a stable income but also a stable career. The scheme is expanding into rural regions, giving more women a chance to join.

Recently, the Minister of State for Finance told Parliament that Bima Mitras have received a total of Rs 62.36 crore in the 2024-25 financial year. For the next financial year, LIC has set aside Rs 520 crore for the scheme. As of July 14, 115.13 crores of the money has already been paid out.

LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme: Who Can Apply?

Women who have passed Class 10 can become Bima Sakhis. The Bima Sakhi program is for women aged 18 to 70. Once selected, the women go through a three-year training program, where they learn about insurance and earn a monthly stipend that changes every year as follows:

Year 1: Rs 7,000 per month
Year 2: Rs 6,000 per month
Year 3: Rs 5,000 per month

On top of this salary, the women also earn some extra income through a commission on every policy they sell. After 5 years, women who complete their training period can apply to become an Apprentice Development Officer (ADO), which is a permanent job. To get this job, a college degree is required.
