Stock Market Today: Following a severe beating in the previous session due to purchases of blue-chip bank stocks and a strong trend in Asian peers, the stock market benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, recovered in early trading on Wednesday. Early trading saw the 30-share BSE benchmark gauge, Sensex, recover and rise 267.68 points to 81,454.12. At 24,766.15, the NSE Nifty increased by 82.25 points.
Leading Winners and Losers
The largest winners among the Sensex companies were Nestle, Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Maruti, UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, TCS, Tata Motors, and State Bank of India.
Among the laggards were Kotak Mahindra Bank, Adani Ports, Eternal, and IndusInd Bank.

Global Markets
While Japan's Nikkei 225 index quoted lower, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, Shanghai's SSE Composite index, and South Korea's Kospi were all trading in the positive zone in Asian markets. Tuesday saw a decline in US markets. Brent crude, the world's benchmark for oil, rose 1.48 per cent to USD 66.34 per barrel.
Exchange data shows that foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold off stocks valued at Rs 10,016.10 crore on Tuesday.
The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 872.98 points, or 1.06 per cent, to close at 81,186.44 on Tuesday, retreating from its early highs. At 24,683.90, the Nifty fell 261.55 points, or 1.05%.
