Pakistan's star spinner Abrar Ahmed has triggered a massive controversy with a big remark mentioning the former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. This has come a few days after India's famous win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final.

Abrar was part of the Pakistan team that played in the Asia Cup 2025. Pakistan ended up losing all three games in the tournament against India as the Women in Blue lifted their record-extending ninth title.

During a recent interaction on a Pakistani YouTube channel, Abrar was asked which cricketer he would like to do boxing with, and in reply, he mentioned Dhawan’s name. "Konsa aisa player hai duniya ka jo aap chahate hai ki apke saamne ho aur aap boxing karey, jispe bada gussa aata ho?" The interviewer asked Abrar, and in reply, he said, "Mai chahta hu ki mai boxing karu aur khada Shikhar Dhawan ho saamne."

Talking about Dhawan, the left-handed batter made a lot of headlines in the first half of 2025. First for his war of words with former Pakistani captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi, and then for refusing to play the World Championship of Legends match against the Pakistani team, which included the likes of Afridi.

Dhawan played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20I matches for Team India from October 2010 to December 2022. He finished his career with 2315 runs in Tests, 6793 in ODIs and 1759 in T20Is. During his playing days, Dhawan won the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.

Since making his international debut for Pakistan in 2022, Abrar has played 10 Tests, 11 ODIs and 23 T20Is. He has dismissed 46 batters in Tests, 18 in ODIs and 29 in T20Is so far. In the final of the Asia Cup 2025, which was played between India and Pakistan in Dubai on September 28, he finished with figures of 1 for 29 in four overs.
