Asia Cup 2025: India captain Suryakumar Yadav's knack for delivering savage replies was on complete display during the Asia Cup 2025 press conference, leaving fellow captains in splits with his quick-witted response when asked about the inclusion of Sanju Samson’s place in the side.

Samson's place in the Indian T20I squad has been under scrutiny following Shubman Gill's return as vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025. According to many media reports, Samson might miss out due to Gill's reinstatement despite the wicketkeeper-batter's contributions at the top of the order.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar commented that the team will prioritise team balance, leaving many wondering about Samson's spot in the playing XI.

When asked about Samson's possible inclusion in India's playing XI, captain Suryakumar alleviated the pressure with a witty response, while responding to the query as the scribe who threw the question at him also hailed from the keeper-batter's native state, Kerala.

“Sir, I shall message you the playing XI. But yes, we are really taking good care of him and don’t worry, we shall make the right decision,” he said, smiling at the gathered reporters.

"Who said that? (favourites) I haven't heard it. But you have played in this format and you know how your preparations are. If your preparations are good, then you will be very confident when you take the field. We are playing T20 as a team after a long time."

Suryakumar Yadav's India will open its Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Wednesday.
