Ex-India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar reveals that Sarfaraz Khan should play in all three formats and that it's quite painful that he isn't a part of the national team. Sarfaraz has been in sublime form in the ongoing domestic tournamentas he has scored tons of runs in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also had hit a hundred off 56 balls against Goa, in which he had hit nine fours and 14 sixes.
He had scored a brilliant knock of 157 runs off 75 balls and helped the team post a mammoth target of 444/8. After his brilliant innings, Vengsarkar emphasised that he was shocked that Sarfaraz is still out of the team after scoring runs consistently.
“You know, the thing is, it’s really baffling for me why he’s not picked in any format for India when he has done so well consistently, even for India when he got an opportunity. I watched him and Devdutt Padikkal batting together against England in Dharamshala. It was a crucial session. They batted beautifully and forged an important partnership, which ultimately helped India win the Test match,” Vengsarkar was quoted as saying to The Times of India.
He also said that it was shameful that Sarafazaz was being ignored despite being talented.
“And after that home series against England, he didn’t get another opportunity to play a Test. Of course, he was on the tour of Australia for the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but he wasn’t given a chance at all, and that really baffles me because he’s a good enough player to play in all formats of the game. Such a talent has been ignored and neglected. It’s a real shame,” he added.
He first went unsold in two rounds of IPL auctions, but then was roped in by CSK for a whopping amount of Rs 75 lakh. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he had scored 329 runs after playing in seven matches, which also includes a ton at a brilliant strike rate of 203.08.
He had scored a brilliant knock of 55 against Uttarakhand last week and then took the Goa bowlers to the cleaners in VHT. He is expected to play a significant role in the ongoing domestic tournament and the IPL as he attempts to regain a spot in the national side.
