IPL 2026: Despite the Karnataka government giving the nod to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to have the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as their home venue for the upcoming IPL 2026, a report claims that the problem is far from being resolved. As per a report by Cricbuzz, there are still discussions going on among the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and the state government, with no clarity.
It is worth noting that the iconic venue Chinnaswamy Stadium was banned from hosting any events after an unfortunate stampede happened outside the stadium in June last year, killing 11 people with several left injured. Interestingly, it was RCB’s first-ever IPL triumph that went sour due to the incident.
“You have to speak to RCB," a KSCA official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“The KSCA has got the government’s permission to host the IPL matches. However, all the works to be undertaken and completed are in progress and will be completed as per schedule."
Recently, the KSCA announced that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is being upgraded in terms of infrastructure, as per the suggestions made by the Expert Committee and various statutory bodies.
“At present, extensive infrastructure and safety enhancement works are underway at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in line with the recommendations of the Expert Committee and other statutory authorities. Several spectator gates and access points are currently being dismantled and widened, along with other critical improvement works," the KSCA said in a statement.
KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad recently announced that the work is anticipated to be finished by the end of February.
“The BCCI is keen for us to host the IPL opening at Chinnaswamy. (I have) got to thank the state government and home ministry for their support along the way toward helping us bring cricket back. We’re confident of completing the infrastructure work on time," Prasad said.
There are also reports of RCB officials meeting with the Chhattisgarh chief minister to explore the possibility of hosting two of their home games in Raipur in IPL 2026.
